LIVE: Polar @ Camden The Barfly ★★★★☆

PolarBarflyFor the past few years the heavier side of the music world has fallen in love with the idea of bands playing certain albums in their entirety, and tonight is no exception. However this show may have flown under the radar for a lot of you, as Polar headline The Barfly in Camden Town to play their latest album, ‘Shadowed By Vultures’ in full. The record was released early last year and has since then taken the band across the UK and Europe several times, each time to a bigger and more aware audience. So tonight will mark the end of the SBV album cycle, and the band wanna go out with a bang here in London. read more

IMG_7379

November isn’t a great month. Crisp cold air, making scarves (and socks) very necessary. It’s definitely not the weather for queueing, but thousands of fans still did, for the chance to catch their hero, Gerard Way, up close, on his first solo UK tour.

Nightmare Festival, the scary older sister of Camden Rocks Festival boasts even more fantastic live acts than its predecessor, in venues all across Camden, in short bursts of 30 minute sets guaranteed to shock (in a good way).

The setting of today’s set is the
Barfly; a dark and somewhat dingy venue, wallpapered with musical nostalgia, and has played host to some of rock’s finest acts. And it’s about to welcome another to the fold. read more

As we stand outside on the cold streets of Bristol tonight a few thoughts run through our minds; is tonight sold out?, can Bury Tomorrow conquer and carry on their blistering form they’ve accomplished during 2014?, and why are doors 15 minutes late? Eventually when doors do open we make our way upstairs and are greeted by a massive  hall. There’s long tables, a bar that serves Steins of draught and a lot of kids here tonight, sounds like a setting for a party tonight. read more

With shows supporting the likes of Biffy Clyro, and playing the CMJ festival in New York already under their belts, we had high expectations for Calling All Cars – and they were more than met. read more

LIVE: Motionless In White/Lacuna Coil @ London Forum 1/11/14 ★★★★★

 motionless new photo

For the rest of the country, Halloween was on the 31st October, the night when restless souls wander the earth and the goths and dark rockers worship their heavy metal gods. Not so in London this year, when all hallows eve came late to the capital. On 1st November at the Forum in Kentish town, hundreds of goths, young and old waited patiently for what ended up being one of the finest nights of darkly inclined music the capital had seen in years. read more

LIVE: We Are The Ocean @ Wedgewood Rooms Portsmouth 14/10/14 ★★★★☆

We-Are-The-Ocean

It’s been something of a quiet year for London rockers We Are The Ocean, as they’ve spent most of 2014 holed up in a studio somewhere recording the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2012 album ‘Maybe Today, Maybe Tomorrow’. This means that, while there have been odd live shows here and there, the band haven’t been on a headline tour in almost a year, and they’ll be taking to the stage tonight, in one of Portsmouth’s most unpleasant gig venues, with the weight of fan anticipation on their shoulders. read more
