Slam Dunk Festival is upon us, and we managed to squeeze in a little chat with former TAI frontman William Beckett, ahead of his solo acoustic sets this weekend. And we must say, he’s rather adorable.
Hi Bill! Slam Dunk will be the first time you play in the UK as “William Beckett”, how excited/nervous/crazy stoked are you?!
Extremely excited, kinda nervous, wicked crazy stoked.
Now, you’re playing the acoustic stage, and while acoustic guitar seems to be your instrument of choice, you recently told fans to expect; “a band in box”. What else will you be bringing on stage? Our guess is a uke…
You’ll have to wait and see! I will say my show sounds much bigger than just a guitar and vocal…
Who are you excited to watch at Slam Dunk?
Definitely excited to see my friends All Time Low. But I’ve got a lot of friends and acquaintances like The Summer Set, The Early November, Me Vs. Hero, and Four Year Strong I’m looking forward to seeing. Most of all, my old friend Andrew McMahon. It’s an awesome line up this year, it’s a pleasure to be a part of it.
Your album is out soon on Equal Vision, following a string of brilliant EPs; what can we expect from the full length? Any special guest producers/artists?
The full length is the best album I’ve ever made. I’ll say that right now. It’s a continuation of the EPs but dives even deeper into the struggles of keeping your head up when so many things in life weigh you down. As far as guests, you know it! All I can say is everyone who cameos on the album are working with me in that capacity for the first time.
If it were solely up to me, abso-bloody-lutey!Any clues on what (if any!) surprise TAI song you might pull out of the bag?
I know a lot of my answers are shrouded in mystery, but you will just have to come see me to find out. 😉
