On the day of his mother’s birthday, Glamour of the Kill frontmam Davey (vocals/bass) talks to us about touring life, Papa Roach and some new material.

HTS: It’s only a few days into this UK tour with Heaven’s Basement, but how are the Heaven’s Basement crowds reacting to you?

Davey: It’s been amazing. We’ve been together since 2007 now and obviously done a lot of UK tours and it’s going great. Going back to cities we’ve played many times and seeing familiar faces and old friends and all the dates are pretty much selling out, it’s great.

HTS: You’ve just played Takedown Festival. How did that go?

Davey: That was awesome. It was great seeing so many old friends, we saw the Yashin guys, Heaven’s Basement obviously who were doing it with us. It was nice to stop off and do the festival and it was really busy. Everyone got drunk and had a good time.

HTS: After this UK tour, you’re going to Europe with Heaven’s Basement. What’s the difference between touring the UK and touring Europe?

Davey: I don’t know. Europe has always been really good to us. We’ve done a lot of tours there; we toured there with Papa Roach. You get looked after really well in Europe. You arrive at the venue and there’s breakfast for you and after soundcheck there’s Chinese food for you or something. It’s amazing. But the thing is I just love touring everywhere, it’s nice to see new places and meet new people. And free food and beer is always good.

HTS: Following the UK and Europe tours you’re heading into the US. What plans do you have for when you finally get some time off?

Davey: I think I’m going to go on holiday. I need a good holiday. I wanna go somewhere where I can just sit, drink beer, get drunk and get a tan. I’m excited. Escape The Fate tour in America is gonna be great. It’s going to be really hot so we’re excited.

HTS: You mentioned Papa Roach. How did that tour go?

Davey: That tour was a dream come true for us. I’ve been a massive fan of Papa Roach since I was a kid. It was just crazy, Jacoby (singer of Papa Roach) coming into our dressing room speaking to us for an hour every night and telling us stories. It’s pretty crazy just calling that guy a friend. We felt pretty lucky to be on that tour. But it was great for us. Papa Roach’s fan base was really welcoming and we made some new fans so it was great.

HTS: Did watching Papa Roach every night develop your own live performance?

Davey: Definitely. Papa Roach are f**king mental live. But watching bands like that, Papa Roach, Avenged Sevenfold, Motionless in White, and seeing how amazing they are live just makes you want to step it up so definitely pushed us harder.

HTS: You’ve played several stadiums as well as festival shows at Download and Sonisphere. How do stadium and festival shows compare?

Davey: Festivals are great because you get to see your friends and you get to play to huge audiences as well. Stadiums are mental. Seeing that many people in front of you is something you dream of when you’re practicing in your garage at home. We feel very lucky and we won’t take that for granted.

HTS: You released ‘Savages’ last year. Do have any plans for a follow up record?

Davey: Yeah, we’re constantly writing. On my phone right now I’ve got loads of song ideas. Even when I go to the toilet I just record something on my phone, and then I go back to it and it’ll be crap really. But we actually have plans to release an EP before the end of the year, about five or six songs. I think we’re going to announce a big co-headline tour with some of our friends which is in talks for the end of the year as well.

HTS: How did your label ‘Siege of Amida Records’ help with the release of ‘Savages’?

Davey: It was great. It’s an American label, and the album hasn’t actually been released in America yet which is funny. We’re going to release that when we go over with Escape the Fate. You need to have a tour to coincide with a new release, but they’re awesome. They’ve got a lot of money so it’s good. We haven’t been with them too long. They released ‘The Summoning’ with us and now ‘Savages’. We shot ‘Second Chance’ in LA when we were over there. We worked with Joey Stages (Asking Alexandria, Of Mice & Men, We Came as Romans) so it’s great to have a label that can fund great names. We feel very lucky.

HTS: You’re back home in Yorkshire now. What’s the home crowd’s reaction like?

Davey: F**king amazing. Every time we play Leeds Cockpit it sells out so we’re super excited. And it’s my mum’s birthday today so we’ll have to get everyone to sing happy birthday to her.
