Album: The Story So Far

Release Date: 18/5/15

Label: Pure Noise Records

Walnut Creek crew The Story So Far have been climbing up the pop punk ladder ever since the release of ‘Under Soil and Dirt’, then second album ‘What You Don’t See’ really started to do things for the quintet. Tours on the Warped Tour and New Found Glory on the Pop Punk’s Not Dead Tour and jaunts all over the UK and Europe has made them an established act and slowly moved them away from the tour support label and into genuine headliners. With the highly anticipated release of their third record, which is a self titled effort, can we see the guys move up another rung on the ladder and take the top spot? read more

Our 3 favourite songs from Cancer Bats new album ‘Searching For Zero’

CB SFZArtist: Cancer Bats

Album: Searching For Zero

Release Date: 9/3/15

Label: BMG Rights Management

Canadian hardcore punk band Cancer Bats have been synonymous with touring ever since their first record came out. Tour after tour after tour came and went and in their ‘down’ time would write and record a new batch of songs that would let them yes you’ve guessed it, tour. However around the time of writing their last album, Dead Set On Living the guys sat back and wrote songs more personal to them. A lot of negative experiences happening around the four piece in their lives. They’ve once again took stock of life and what has happened to them and channelled it into this new album, Searching For Zero. So what result has this yielded? A more serious affair? Harder hitting songs in more ways than one? This has been the longest gap between records for Cancer Bats and have been quoted to say that the writing process of this album has been longer than all the writing sessions of their previous four albums combined. read more

ALBUM: Falling In Reverse – Just Like You ★★★★☆

Artist: Falling In Reverse

Album: Just Like You

Release Date: 24/02/15

Label: Epitaph Records

Falling In Reverse: for many people, the name of this band is synonymous with one man only: Ronnie Radke, the band’s volatile frontman who found fame as one of the founding members of Escape The Fate, and a songwriting genius who’s either the saviour of the modern metal scene or the most prominent symbol of its decline, depending on who you speak to. So, does the new Falling In Reverse album ‘Just Like You’ stand a fighting chance of getting any of Radke’s many detractors onside? read more

ALBUM: In This Moment – Black Widow ★★★★☆

Album: Black Widow

Release Date: 17/11/14

Label: Atlantic Records

Los Angeles based metal act In This Moment begun their musical career as a fairly standard metalcore outfit, albeit one given an extra shot of credibility by front-woman Maria Brink’s distinctive and powerful voice. However, they were never content to reside in that box, and each successive album has seen them incorporate a wider variety of genres and influences into their sound. Their last album ‘Blood’ was controversial among their fans, but added more of an electronic edge to their sound and showed substantial evolution from their earlier efforts. With ‘Black Widow’ In This Moment complete their transition into true genre-straddling modern metal heavyweights. read more

ALBUM: Ashestoangels – Horror Cult ★★★★☆

Album: Horror Cult

Release Date: 31/10/14

Label: Dust Devil Sounds

Horror Cult’ is the third release by Bristol-based goth heroes Ashestoangels, a band who’re notorious for providing one of the most visceral and energetic live shows of their scene. The question is, can they capture this live energy on record? It certainly gets off to a suitably feisty start with ‘Six Six Six’ a fast paced slice of gothic punk with a fist-pumping scream along chorus that seems destined to become a fan favourite. The quality level stays high with next track ‘The Wake’. It kicks off with an exhilaratingly fast guitar riff, slowing down to lead into an anthemic chorus, with enrapturing lyrics that weave a tale of grief and loss around the listener. read more
